Yadira Dorantes 

Yadira was born and raised in Winston-Salem, but her family is originally from Guanajuato, Mexico. She always felt drawn to the cosmetology world but realized she wanted to be a hairstylist during her senior year in high school.

 

She graduated from Paul Mitchell The School Charlotte in 2017 and has been happily doing hair ever since. She joined the Alkali team in 2024, where she found a salon home that matches her values, professionalism, and desire to provide the best hair services possible. Her ideal client is friendly and talkative, though she also enjoys quiet personalities as well!

 

Yadira’s favorite hair service is a balayage. She loves how customizable a balayage is for every client and how it adds such beautiful dimension to all hair textures and colors. Her favorite hair product is Oribe’s Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray. It helps control frizz even on the humidest days and isn’t heavy on the hair.

 

While she’s handled her fair share of hair fixes, one of Yadira’s standout challenges was correction an at-home color job that left big spots all over the hair. She saved the day by doing a full highlight and lowlight. Her own biggest hair goof was when she was in beauty school and tried to use a blue shampoo. It ended up turning her hair teal, and it wasn’t nearly as cool as it might sound. Yadira’s favorite personal style is a warm balayage. It gives her long hair lots of dimension and looks good no matter how it’s styled.

 

When she’s not in the salon, Yadira loves doing CrossFit. Her favorite color is pink and if you want to surprise her with a treat, go with something sweet!

Yadira's Top At-Home Hair Tips:

• To maintain color, always use a good color-safe shampoo

• If you have highlights, add a purple shampoo to your hair care routine along with a color-protectant shampoo, but don't use the purple every wash as it'll dull your highlights

• Get a good blowout brush, it will really help with your at-home blowout struggles
